Song Brocade
Song Brocade is a traditional Chinese silk handicraft. Because it is primarily produced in Suzhou, it is also known as "Suzhou Song Brocade." With its gorgeous colors, intricate patterns, and strong and soft texture, Song Brocade is known as the "crown of Chinese brocades." Song Brocade originated in the late Northern Song Dynasty (around the 11th century AD). Products are categorized into heavy brocade and fine brocade (collectively known as large brocade), as well as box brocade and small brocade. Heavy brocade is thicker and more heavily textured, primarily used for furnishings in palaces and halls. Fine brocade, the most representative type of Song Brocade, is of moderate thickness and is widely used in clothing and mounting. In 2006, Song Brocade was included in the first batch of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List. The Song Brocade weaving technique was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009. This is a traditional Chinese silk weaving technique.
