Shu Brocade
Sichuan, China, was formerly known as "Shu." Shu brocade, a silk jacquard brocade produced in Sichuan, is made from mulberry silk and is one of China's four famous brocades. It flourished during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period and reached its peak during the Han and Tang Dynasties. Its origins date back over 4,000 years to the ancient Shu Kingdom, where the silk fabric "bo" (silk) was the earliest form of brocade. Traditional Shu brocade is primarily based on the five primary colors of red, yellow, blue, white, and black, creating rich, layered colors. It has a rich, textured feel, with a ridged texture in the patterned areas and a soft, flat surface. In 2006, the Shu brocade weaving technique was included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage representative items, and in 2009, it was added to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
